THE FURNITURE RESTORATION COMPANY, LLC.

ANTIQUES, FURNITURE & ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURE

If you have a cherished piece of furniture that has been damaged or neglected in any way, The Furniture Restoration Company can help you to bring back its original beauty. Working within your budget and expectations, we can clean and give it a little touch-up, fully refinish it, or give it a completely different look. We can even make a brand new piece look distressed or antique. The possibilities of a custom finish are truly endless.

We also know that furniture is not the only woodwork you have in your home. At FRC, we specialize in exterior/interior doors, entryways, mantles, window trim, wall paneling and most other wood elements.

Many restoration companies will only strip, stain and lacquer your woodwork, leaving your piece without depth or uniformity. At FRC, we pay specific attention to detail. It is the little details, if not properly addressed in the beginning, that will control the quality of the finish in the end.

OUR FINISHING PROCESS (+)

We begin by hand-stripping your piece, as opposed to dipping it in harsh chemicals that could damage the wood fibers or destroy glue joints.

Then we prep the wood, filling any damage or imperfections that are not in the character of the piece.

We follow this with hand sanding to create a clean, smooth surface for staining and a proper level of grip for lacquer adhesion.

Next, we add dye-stains, which add depth and contrast to help magnify the natural beauty of the wood.

Then, we seal the piece and add base color using a pigmented wiping stain. We seal again, and—if necessary to achieve the desired color&mdashwe add a coat or two of tinted lacquer or a glaze. This also helps to add even more depth and contrast.

When the correct color is achieved, we apply several topcoats of a nitrocellulose lacquer. We finalize everything with a hand-rub and wax.

In the past, all fine furniture was treated in this fashion and we think it should still be. It takes a little longer to get done, but we know you will appreciate the beauty of the end result. (x)
